Who doesn’t want to know the secret to better aging? We all want to feel our best and live well in our senior years. The truth is that there isn’t a single “secret” to aging. Better aging depends on taking charge of your daily life with these simple habits for staying happier and healthier.
Prioritize Home Safety
Living well in your senior years starts with warding off illness and injury. Injuries often happen at home, many times due to falling. None of us want to think that we’re at risk, but it’s always a good idea to make your home safer. You can reduce falling risks by securing rugs, moving electrical cords from busy areas, and being cautious about spills or anywhere you could slip.
Even when you do everything right, injuries can still happen. One way to take precautions is with home safety technology. Besides eating for a positive mental outlook, we also need to eat well for our physical health. Our dietary needs change as we age, so we want to be intentional about getting the right nutrients. They found that getting plenty of protein and vitamin D, along with limiting highly acidic foods, helps keep our muscles strong. You don’t need a complete diet overhaul to get these nutrients; instead, take small steps toward eating better.
Exercise for Fun and Fitness
It probably isn’t a surprise to hear that exercise is a key component to healthy living, but you may not know how much physical activity can improve your quality of life. According to Harvard Health Publishing, even basic exercises like walking can increase your mobility and reduce the risk of disability later in life. Maintaining your ability to do everyday tasks, not to mention the fun stuff in life, is one of the ways you can stay independent and remain happy.
Staying active in your senior years does so much more than promote physical health. Exercise gives your brain a boost too, which means it helps fight off memory loss and makes you feel happier. Aerobic exercise, which is anything that gets your heart rate up, is the best way to get this brain boost. Older adults also need strength training to protect muscles and bones.
All of these tips for healthy living can have a positive impact on your life, but if you tend to be lonely, your mental health will still suffer. Make a point of reaching out to friends or connecting with new people through your interests and hobbies.
It may seem scary to step outside of your comfort zone, but when you do and find people to connect with, the result is so rewarding. Make it your goal to try one new thing from this guide each day and see how great you feel! Chances are, you will see that taking charge of your health is the best way to thrive at any stage of life.

Essential oils have been around for centuries but only recently began a rise to fame with the onset of popular oil producing industries such as DoTerra and Young Living.

What are essential oils?

Hypnosis, you either like it or are scared of it. That is generally the reactions I have been getting since my hypnosis certification in January. So of course…..I have to blog about what Hypnosis really is and how it can help you 🙂
When I first heard of my teacher Tim Horn of Hypnoconsult LLC as a hypnotist, I was fearful. You want to “put me under” and do what?! I shudder to think back to those early days of my ignorance and how uncomfortable I must have made Tim feel. I asked him every cliched thing in the book I could because well, honestly my knowledge of hypnosis was based solely on tv shows!
“Are you going to make me cluck like a chicken?” No.
“Am I not going to remember?” No.
“Am I going to look stupid?” You do that on your own. 😉
But thankfully, Tim is a patient man and he suffered through my silly questions in order to educate me about his profession. Am I glad he did! When I met Tim years ago, we did a trade where I offered him massage in exchange for hypnosis. I was dealing with overweight issues and had a sweet tooth unfortunately. To this day I remember my first hypnosis session with Tim clearly and was so impressed with it, that I went on to take training through Tim’s program and become a certified hypnotist myself.
Here are some things to note about my personal experience with hypnosis:
1) I remember most to everything said
Many times the fear associated with hypnosis is that we will be “under some type of spell” and not conscious of what is happening. Then the evil hypnotist can take advantage of us! Well media had something to do with that because when I was hypnotized, I was very aware of what was happening, albeit in a relaxed state. To best describe it, I can hear car alarms going off and dogs barking, but I have no desire to move or respond, I am in such a peaceful state.
2) Hypnosis works!
Hypnosis works because while in the hypnotic state, a client is more open to suggestions. Our analytical and calculating conscious mind is resting, so the subconscious mind is in full play, and this mind tends to be more open and accepting of new ideas. If I could imagine my mind talking, it would look like this for me:
Hypnotist: You feel very happy when you are exercising, in fact you crave exercising, you crave it so much, you want to do it everyday for at least an hour at a time.
Conscious mind: no way dude! I have sciatica pain, do you know how that will hurt? and where will I find the time? An hour! are you kidding me?!
Subconscious mind: Okay.
When Tim hypnotized me, we addressed my love of chocolate cake. Ohhh its sinful. I can eat a whole cake by myself. I remember vaguely him saying that I don’t really care for chocolate cake anymore and it reminds me of sweaty socks. No lie, to this day, i can probably have a bite or two of chocolate cake but then I hear Tim’s voice about the sweaty socks and I stop eating immediately! This is three years later!
3) Changes are permanent
Just like my chocolate cake dilemma, other new behaviors have embedded within me. Hypnosis doesn’t address your conscious mind, it address the subconscious realm which dictates 85% of our behavior in real time. When you have one session with a hypnotist, usually you notice results right away. I tend to offer a three pack session when working because in each following session, I build on the first one to really anchor the suggestion down. This makes the change more permanent and a greater possibility to last.
4) You are awake and cognizant
If there was a fire in the building, I would jump up and run out with everyone else. Hypnosis does not prevent you from self survival or put you in harm. Remember in the subconscious realm, you are open to suggestions ONLY IF it is acceptable to you. If I was with a hypnotist and she tried to assault me physically in any way, I would stop her because I would not be open to that behavior. I explain this in detail to clients because there is the general fear about getting hypnotized by a male hypnotist and being taken advantage of. This is nonsense! While I can’t speak for ALL male hypnotists, I can speak for the few I know (Tim and Rob) and believe me, they are interested more in helping you overcome your addictions and problems than peeking down your shirt. Have some faith people!
All in all, I have had some tremendous success with my hypnosis clients. I have worked on a woman who had social anxiety issues and she reported back that she went out to a bar with friends that weekend. I have worked on a man with smoking addictions and he quit after the first session. I have also worked on a woman with weight loss goals and she has lost over 20 pounds and now crave healthy foods.

What IS Life Coaching?
I know, I know the title is somewhat depressing. I mean when I first heard of it, my initial thought was “So you mean to tell me I suck so bad at life, I need a coach?!” Who wants to hear that ever?
Well turns out, I had a bad attitude about it (foot in mouth syndrome) because not only did I spend a year with a life coach and completely turned my life around, but I became one too!
My Personal Journey
I have my own stuff to worry about. Sometimes people forget I have a back story. They look at the thriving wellness center, my loud and fun personality, my wonderful kids and think “She has it all.” I know this because this is what people have told me. To my face. In real time. And I am always shocked. I have a lot going on too! How do you not see the mess within me?
Now don’t get me wrong, I am an AMAZING healer/speaker/teacher/author (duh!) and it IS because of all the experiences I went through in life however the back story is real. And it was beginning to come to the front more and more.
I spent a year seeing a therapist. Every week. No kidding. I have to say, she did a lot for me. She validated how I was feeling and taught me that my thoughts and feelings are real regardless of how other people felt about it. I am incredibly grateful for her because I don’t think I would be here today without all of her amazing help. However. Once I worked through my ISH, I didn’t know what else to do. I didn’t have anything else to talk about. I was feeling real peaceful with my past. However, I was having some serious issues in my present.
Luckily as faith would have it, a life coach came into my life last year in the form of my boyfriend Rob Pritchard. Rob is the owner of the Healing Frequency and an amazing person and healer. When we initially got together, we thought it was a match made in heaven! Two healers with their own businesses, similar interests and friends dating? How does it get better?
Well it didn’t. It got worse! What no one tells you in this divine match up is that we each became a very good, clean, shiny mirror for the parts of ourselves we weren’t too happy with. I saw myself in full regalia and I didn’t like it one bit.
This is where the life coaching came in. Thankfully Rob didn’t run (whew!) but he chose to help me through it. He knew I was reacting to the mirror and he didn’t take anything personally but kept reminding me of the greatness that lay within me, albeit dormant, but coming to the surface. For a year, I fought with him like a rabid dog on the loose, but he never let up and he never gave in. He remained firm, he remained stoic and I loved him even more.
I came out of 2015 a new woman. I came out feeling confident, sure of myself and for the first time in 38 years, independent. I didn’t need Rob or anyone else for my happiness, I found it within myself. And that is in part due to my own inner work but mostly to Rob’s life coaching skills and me finally taking a knee and listening.
This year I took the certification course in life coaching with Rob because I saw just how beneficial it was and it changed my perspective ALOT on life coaching. A coach is not someone yelling at you and beating you down but instead someone who is more like your partner in helping you achieve your goals.
What is a Life Coach:
I have been all of these things and so much more to my recent clients who have signed on for their coaching sessions. There is so much work to be done and sometimes we can get overwhelmed in life. I recently had a client who felt wishy washy about what she wanted to do in life and her life purpose. After our coaching session, she realized she had a deep desire to follow a path but the amount of work it took made her fearful and anxious, that is why she kept going back and forth.
Right now you are probably thinking, “hmmmm I could probably use a coach myself. I definitely got some areas in my life that need cleaning up.”
So what do you do? Well first there needs to be a deep desire and willingness to want to change and grow. If you come in as a client because someone else is making you do it, it will not work because you are not personally vested. When you are all in the game, I am ready to work with you because I know the desire is there to make a change.

A Coach will hold you accountable for any steps planned. This is where our friends and loved ones can’t go. They sympathize with us, they understand when we don’t have energy to do our homework because the kids were sick or you need to make dinner. Not a coach! A coach will EMPATHIZE with you but they will not join you in your little pity party. They may give you a day to get yourself together (thanks Rob!) but then its back to the grind.
I loved the accountability part of coaching because sometimes I like many people let certain goals drop. There is a reason why resolutions aren’t completed! As humans we fall somewhere along the line. A coach will keep a running tab on your homework and commit to meeting you at the finish line. Trust me, my coach is still here. 😉

HI there, Uma here and today’s blog is on the wonderful modality of hypnosis. Of course this comes as no surprise! I just recently became a certified Hypnotherapist through the National Guild of Hypnotists (NGH), the leading organization of Hypnotists in the United States.
It was an amazing 100 hour certification course I took through Tim Horn of Hypnoconsult LLC and I am very excited to work with clients in this new and healing career.
The belief in hypnosis is that the subconscious mind delegates your day to day activity without you even noticing. This is the place of habits and thought patterns. While your conscious mind is focused on your tasks at hand (I have to do laundry, buy groceries etc…), the subconscious mind is running a tele novela in the background.
“God I look fat in these jeans.”
“I am not hungry but I really want to eat that piece of chocolate cake. Ok I can, I deserve it.”
“Look at him over there with that smug look on his face. I don’t know him but I already don’t like him.”
Sounds familiar? We have thoughts and these thoughts that are judgmental and opinionated come from that subconscious realm deep inside of us and most times without us even paying attention to them.
Usually it is not a big deal to be on auto pilot and go through your day with your little chatterbox inside your head, BUT what if that chatterbox was feeding you lines like above? This will affect you from achieving and staying in a place of peace, compassion and understanding.
So hypnosis works to get to the underlying issues of our thoughts. The understanding is if we can change the thought pattern then that will change the belief which changes the attitude that then changes the behavior. Looks a little something like this:
Thoughts –> Beliefs –> Attitudes –> Behavior.
And this is ultimately what we want, behavior modification. If we can develop new, healthy behaviors, all of life opens up to us with ease and joy.
How does Hypnosis work?
Easy! The first step is to contact a certified hypnotist (like myself) and detail what your issues/situation is. The first phone call or meeting is the longest one as we go over what you are currently struggling with as well as what you want to see and achieve after hypnosis.
After we determine your goals and outcome, you sit or lay comfortably and I begin to take you through a series of progressive relaxation techniques to achieve mental and physical relaxation. Once that is achieved we then “talk” with the subconscious mind.
Sessions can be of two types. A client can either choose to not communicate and let me do all the talking for them or it can be interactive where the person communicates while in a deeply relaxed state of focused concentration. This is where the healing begins.
After the work has been done, I emerge you and bring you back to a state of alertness and you feel amazing! Full of energy and vitality and definitely lighter as a result of all the releasing you have done.
Can anyone be hypnotized?
Absolutely. There are only three requirements to be hypnotized:
In the short course of my life as a hypnotist, I have met several people who say to me they cannot be hypnotized. That’s a false statement. The real statement they should be making (and I tell them this and they all agree) is I choose not to be hypnotized because the issue is still serving me in some way OR I did not trust the person I was with and therefore did not allow myself to fully relax.
As a hypnotherapist, I rule out these three requirements in our first talk. I do suggestibility testing to see how you respond to suggestions and I pick your brain a little to see if you really are ready for change and want to overcome this issue you are dealing with. If I feel unsure in any way with the way you respond, I will and do politely refer you to my teacher Tim Horn because I feel he will be able to help you where you are at.
How Many Sessions do I need?
As many as it takes to sink it in. Hypnosis follows the rules of compounding which simply means the first thing is hammered in after repetition of several other things. So for instance for someone who wants to quit smoking, in the first session we place in the subconscious mind positive behavior changes. Thats the first suggestion, we repeat it several times both in that first session and follow up sessions so the first statement becomes a new truth, a new way of life easily and naturally.
Typically my clients (the ones I have worked on so far) have seen amazing results just after the first session so there is the option to book one session with me. However, in understanding human behavior and how the mind works, I feel more comfortable offering my clients a three session package. This way we address several different things and we continually reinforce the positive behavior you want to achieve.
What can hypnosis help me with:
A variety of things! Hypnosis can be used for any limiting, restraining belief holding you back. At this time I am only seeing clients for the following needs:
If you need hypnosis for grief/bereavement/emotional upset or pain management I would gladly refer you to Rob Pritchard who also took the hypnosis training with me. Rob is a great listener and communicator in all things psychological and in addition to being a wonderful hypnotist he has a college background in psychology. He lives to help clients on an emotional level!
How much does it cost:
Hypnosis services is an expense. Why? Because the hypnotist understand the issue you are dealing with is not just behavioral, it is mental too. It is human nature to tie in importance to things we have to work for. Case in point, when I started Lotus Wellness from my basement, classes were free and hardly anyone came. Now that I am in a studio and charging, my classes are always full.
It is human nature to associate cost with benefit. If you want to lose weight and you have free options to do it with (go walking outside) you choose instead the paid option (gym memberships) because you need to associate in your mind the benefit of what you are doing as it equates to the success.
Don’t worry though! As much as we understand this, we don’t break your bank about it. Like all my classes and services, there is a cost, and this cost is an indirect contract you make with me that you are willing and ready to commit to seeing this through for your success.
Like I said before you can come in for one session or a package of three. One session will be $200 and it will take about 90 minutes-2 hours. If you do three sessions it will be $300 for the three and each session will last about an hour, with the first session being the longest. The three session package also allows time for me to give you homework and also teach you how to do self hypnosis so you can continue to enjoy the wonderful benefits of hypnosis as a life long change.

HI there! Uma here and if you have been following me on social media recently you would have seen an upsurge of posts on Access Bars.
What is the Bars you ask? Only the most AMAZING modality I have experienced to date! I fell so in love with this modality that I not only took the certification course to become a practitioner but I also went all the way to become a Facilitator so I can assist other people in incorporating the Bars into their lives.
Access Bars is one part of the larger modality called Access Consciousness. Before you get to know the Bars, you need to know about Access Consciousness first. It is a movement really focused on creating a world of consciousness and oneness. Taken from the Access Consciousness website, (www.accessconsciousness.com),
“It is our target to get you to the point where you receive from Access the awareness of everything, with no judgment of anything. If you have no judgment of anything, then you get to look at everything for what it is, not for what you want it to be, not for what it ought to be, but just for what it is.

Access is a different point of view about life. It’s about seeing all the things that you always knew should be possible but didn’t know how to receive, with no judgment about the choices made in the past or future. Access gives people real life tools to use which can help them get to where they would like to be.
The Bars is what can be said to be the core or foundation of Access. They are 32 bars of energy that run through and around a person’s head that connects to different aspects in life. The Bars store the electromagnetic component of all thoughts, ideas, attitudes, beliefs and decisions that you have ever had about anything.
For example, there is a bar for Control. Any thought you have ever had about control that you considered important, the energy of that thought is stored in the bar Control. There are bars for healing, money, creativity, body; 32 different ones in all. Touch one bar and you begin to clear away the energy locked up in that area of your life.
So what happens in a session? My client would come in and get on my table fully clothed. There is no music (interferes with the removal of stored energy) and if clients are wearing watches, I ask them to remove them (the Bars can affect your timepieces!). And that’s it! My clients lay comfortably on the table and chat with me as I run their bars. Most talk for half the session and begin to feel very sleepy midway through and they take a nap. They awake by the end, feeling refreshed, rejuvenated and even looking younger! Man, how easy is that? 🙂

So I am writing to you from Beautiful Guyana, my home country where I have been for the past few days. I thought it only fitting to post something relating to my history as I gave out to the palm trees and mango trees in my yard.
Being Guyanese opens me up to a world of rich culture and diversity. We ARE the land of six races (African, Indian, Chinese, Portuguese, European and of course our native people, the Amerindians) and so I have learned a lot about life from just living in Guyana. One of the most important things I learned growing up is how to heal naturally.
We didn’t depend on outside medicine or hospitals for many of our ailments, instead a family member or someone who knows someone (usually a bush doctor) would make up a quick remedy to help us out. As expected, it worked and is why it is still practiced to this day.
I want to talk about the Tulsi plant in this post because it is a highly revered plant to East Indians near and far. It is called Tulsi or Tulasi (Ocimumtenuiflorum) but is most commonly known in North America as Holy Basil. According to Hindu belief it is a sacred plant as it has been used for thousand of years in India to treat many ailments.
There exists many legends and folklore about Tulsi but my favorite (and probably because it is twisted) is that Tulsi was the incarnation of a princess who fell in love with Lord Krishna and so had a curse laid on her by his consort Radha.
The Tulsi plant is grown in or near almost every orthodox Hindu house. A person who waters and cares for the Tulsi daily is believed to have gain moksha (salvation) and divine blessings. Traditionally the daily worship and care of the plant is the responsibility of the women in the household as the plant is usually seen as a symbol of ideal wifehood and motherhood. Devotees would pray to the plant and offer chants as a method of worship.
Outside of religion and worship, the Tulsi plant is also used in Ayurveda for its divine healing properties. It has been mentioned in the ancient Ayurvedic text “Charak Samhita” and believed to promote longevity. Some treatments that Tulsi is used for is as follows:

I don’t know about you, but after being home and remembering all the home remedies and folklore, I am definitely looking to bringing a Tulsi plant home when I get back.

You’ve probably heard the term mindful or mindfulness. It’s getting a lot of good press lately. So, what’s mindfulness all about and why should we bother?
First, there’re a few different ways the word mindful or mindfulness can be used, so let’s get clear on we’re talking about. The word mindfulness can refer to mindfulness meditation, which is based on a Buddhist meditation; mindful can be a character trait, such as, ‘Bob is always so mindful of other people’s feelings.’; and it can be a practice of a moment to moment awareness of what you’re experiencing emotionally and physically without judgment. We’ll be discussing this last definition.
What does it mean to be mindful in this way? It means to observe what you’re feeling, seeing, smelling, tasting, touching, and hearing without assigning a judgment of good or bad, pleasant or unpleasant, or fun or boring.
To practice mindfulness in this way, it is much easier to start with experiences that are already fairly neutral for you. Most of us don’t think too much about brushing our teeth, but this can be a great place to start. It’s very experiential and something we do a couple of times a day. Start with how the toothbrush feels in your hand. How does the toothpaste smell? How does it taste? What do the bristles feel like on your gums? What are you seeing as you brush your teeth? What do you hear? Are you aware of any emotions as you’re brushing your teeth? The point of this exercise is to start observing these things. Once you can brush your teeth mindfully, you can add in other activities.
The real question is, ‘Why should we bother?’ According to the American Psychological Association (APA), there are many benefits of being mindful. These include:
Have thoughts that go around and around in your head like they’re on a loop? That’s rumination and can be eased with mindfulness. Stress? Does that even need to be a question in our society? You can reduce stress with mindfulness. There are many benefits and there are more to be found if you’re looking.

These are pretty great as far as effects of a simple practice go. I’ll also add that finding more gratitude is another effect many people find of mindfulness.
Does this mean that mindfulness will make your life a piece of cake? No, absolutely not. What it does mean is that you will be more clear-headed and focused; less stressed; and more compassionate in your day-to-day life. That will certainly improve the quality of your life.
There are additional ways to increase your mindfulness. You can join a meditation or get a Reiki session. These are great ways to increase mindfulness in a very focused way. In a meditation, you’ll often focus on chanting a mantra, which helps to increase focused attention. Some meditations will follow up chanting with a mindfulness meditation, which, as its name implies, is a practice of mindfulness. A Reiki session can help you handle stress better, be more relaxed, worry less, and/or being less emotionally reactive. If you’re having a hard time with your mindfulness practice, having a Reiki session can help get you in a good frame of mind to continue your practice.
Please do notice that I’m using the word ‘practice’ a lot through this article. Remember that mindfulness is a practice, something to continually develop and work at. Be gentle with yourself through this practice. Enjoy mindfulness, its benefits, and its wonderful effects.

Have you ever received a massage and left feeling….let down?
You know what I mean. You are a busy person, you work all the time and the day comes when the stress is unbearable. You feel pain in your body (mostly the back or shoulders) and no matter what home remedies you do, it can’t be healed. If you are like most people, you tend to suffer through the pain, praying and hoping it goes away on its own. But, we all know how this goes…it doesn’t and then without any other options you left, you finally decide to make an appointment for a massage.
Now you don’t have a regular therapist you go to and you figure any massage will do, right? So you look online and find the therapist that is within your budget and time restraints and make your appointment. You think nothing more of it until the day of your appointment and there is a little glimmer of excitement as you walk up to the therapist’s office. NOW you get excited! The idea that for one hour you can relax, do nothing and have someone else take care of you…the idea finally hits home and the anticipation and excitement arises. Finally, you get some TLC.
But invariably it happens. All that excitement was in vain because you walk out of the studio feeling blah. Sometimes even feeling worse than you did before. WHY? How is this even possible? A massage is suppose to make you feel great right?
Most times they do but sometimes, just sometimes, the experience leaves you with a bland taste in your mouth. STOP! Don’t sign off on massages just yet. Read on to discover why you might have had a bad experience and how you can change it in the future to have an awesome experience!
The Key Steps to Receiving a Great Massage:
1) Do your Home work:
Massage therapists are a dime a dozen right now. It is very easy to go to school and get a certificate to work on others in the massage therapy field. I don’t want to “dump” on my fellow therapists because there is no basis to make a general statement. Most of the therapists I have met are truly wonderful, gifted, caring, loving people that sincerely want to help you. They care about your pain and discomfort and want to be part of the healing process. HOWEVER, I would be lying if I told you that every therapist I met is like that. There are a few bad apples in the bunch, be it for whatever reason (not interested in the work, underpaid and angry, tired and frustrated etc…) and they do NOT have your best interest at heart. They show up, clock in and get the work done with no regards to your precious body or energy.
When looking for a therapist, read the reviews and check out social media sites that they are listed on. I am listed on Thumbtack and that’s where I get many clients from but I love the reviews on Thumbtack because it is not solicited from me. Many times I am surprised to go on there and read a review a recent client for me. It is legit and lets future clients know what they can expect from a session and what I am good at.
The best bet in choosing a therapist is finding one that someone from your inner circle uses. If you have a friend or family member that consistently go to the same person, try booking with them! They clearly are doing a good job and have won the favor of your peeps, so that would be a good place to start.
2) Communication is Key
Many times I give a FANTASTIC massage or service but there are a few times, I miss the mark. Why? Because my client does not communicate to me what they need. Hey, its a relationship we are having for the one hour…I can’t read your mind (or can I? =0) so you need to tell me what you need from this session. It doesn’t have to be complex, (“I need you to work my rotator cuff and stretch my sternocleidomastoid)”. Something simple and to the point works best such as, “I am feeling stressed from work, I would like to relax during this session” or “I have a lot of tension in my neck and back, I usually like relaxing massages but can you add a little pressure in those areas.”
Even the best of the best can fall short if they do not know what you want out of the session. Remember it is your session and you get to direct how it goes. During the initial consultation your therapist should ask what you want done or it should be on the intake form for you to fill out. If neither of these choices present itself, SPEAK UP! Before the therapist leaves the room, let them know what you want done, what you want to focus on and stay away from! It will add to the greatness of your session and therefore make you feel even better after its done.
3) Find a therapist that also does Energy Work
I personally love this point because it is what I do! My own massage therapist is a Reiki healer and I can feel the love and energy flowing from her hands when I get my massages. I call her sessions, “Soul Healing” because I feel she is working on my physical body, my mind, my emotions and my spiritual body as well. When you receive a session from a therapist who also dabbles in energy work, their hands will automatically “turn on” when they work on you and this is an extra benefit that comes free with your session!
Now of course I am biased in making this point because I am an energy worker but the more I have learned in this field, the more I realize that problems existing on the body start first in your energy. Why work the plant when you can go straight to the root cause of the problems? Receiving energy work adds to the session because it heals from below the surface. Not only will your pain go away but also too the emotions and feelings associated with it.
4) Open Up and Allow yourself to Heal
Now we turn the table on you! Getting a great session isn’t just the responsibility of the therapist, you absolutely play a role! Yes I am responsible as your therapist to make sure you are comfortable and relaxed. I will provide a safe and warm environment, beautiful room, clean linens, relaxing music and scented lotion to enhance your experience. I will apply my school trained expertise and intuition to the massage and bring about healing as much as I can. However, I cant do squat if you refuse to be part of the process.
Most times you don’t intend to fight me or the massage; I usually get the nervous person who is afraid to undress, or afraid to be touched so that plays a role in your comfort level. I also get clients who are body conscious and apologize for not waxing/shaving legs or washing hair. Relax, as a therapist I have seen it all in my room. Trust me when I say you probably will not bring anything I have not seen already. Put all those worries to the side and focus on what brought you into my studio in the first place; the need to receive healing and relaxation.
When you lie on the table, try to clear your mind by focusing on your breathing. Take deep breaths in and out and allow your mind and body to relax. Notice the surroundings and enjoy the beauty of the environment. Enjoy the smells, sights and sounds…this is becoming tantric in that you indulge the senses and in doing so, you allow the body to fully relax.
As your therapist touches you, allow yourself to sink into the table and be worked on. Most people are afraid to fall asleep, like they will “miss something” but that is not true. Your body and mind will be healed regardless if you are awake or not, just allow yourself to go and float into oblivion!
These are just a few tips but they are important. You can receive immense healing and a relaxing service if you follow them through. We live in a world full of stress and strife, when you allow yourself to relax and completely give of yourself to the session, you come out the winner.
As a therapist, I understandably will encourage you to receive frequent healing sessions. One session a year will not work through your physical/mental/emotional issues. The clients that heal the most are the ones that commit to a regular routine of self care. Just today I worked on a client who use to be sporadic in receiving massages but finally committed to a once a week deal. He loves it! He cant stop raving about how his insomnia issues have improved, he feels better during the day, has more energy and feels more peaceful. I am telling you, I don’t make this stuff up! 🙂
